Sustainable Development Workshops for MENA Region’s Officials

We were pleased and honoured to have delivered two major capacity-building workshops in sustainable development and urbanisation, local strategic planning and sustainability governance to officials from five countries in the MENA Region. The workshops, which we delivered to a large group of local and national government officials, participants from NGOs and international organisations from Five Arab countries were curated in the framework of the Swedish Cities Association’s Inclusive Local Governance Programme INLOG. The workshops addressed urbanisation challenges in Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Syria and Jordan highlighting challenges, among these postwar recovery needs, climate change impacts, including desertification and water scarcity, and planning, institutional and governance challenges. The workshops familiarised the participants with Strategic Planning principles, benefits and processes and its significance for dealing with the most urging development needs and localising the Climate Agenda.

At the same time, the workshops highlighted opportunities that Arabic countries in the MENA Region can build on, for example in connection with energy transition, green growth, education, and active community engagement and social innovation to rebuild social strengths.

We appreciate the great collaboration with Ryan Knox, SALAR International Programme Director, Lucia Acosta, Senior Consultant at SALAR, and Mats Jarnhammar, Stakeholders and Community Engagement Consultant.

We also greatly appreciate the engagement the participants demonstrated in sharing knowledge and viewpoints, and turning the events into collaborative learning.

Please come in touch if you are interested to collaborate with us around similar workshops.
