Client: 100 Resilient Cities
100 Resilient Cities aimed to explore how their Resilience Framework can be used to address challenges and promote resilience in different contexts. Amman was one of the city they focused on upon the opening of their office in London, and their vision to expand the implementation of their programme.
Dr Roudaina Alkhani developed a cross-sector integrated City Resilience scoping strategy applied to Amman and exploring the framework. Several urbanisation, environmental and sector challenges were identified as key, including extended refugee camps and the pressure on jobs, housing, services and transportation, as well as water scarcity and climate change impacts. Especially youth employment was seen as key as well as institutional capacity. The strategy aimed to promote Amman as a resilient city able to meet challenges, withstand shocks, and build on strengths. It aimed to capitalise on ongoing local and international efforts and support collaboration.
